| Customer Reviews: D-LINK WIRELESS ROUTER November 2, 2009 Mr. James Cardno (UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I BOUGHT THIS ROUTER BECAUSE OF THE DUAL BAND FUNCTIONALITY, IT ALLOWS THE KIDS TO PLAY ONLINE ON ONE BAND AND FOR MYSELF TO GO ON THE INTERNET ON THE OTHER BAND, TO TRY IT OUT, I HAD ONE OF THE KIDS PLAYING THE WII IN THE LIVING ROOM, I WAS ON THE INTERNET DOWN LOADING PHOTOS IN THE KITCHEN, MY OTHER CHILD WAS UPSTAIR IN ONE OF THE BEDROOMS ON THE NINTENDO ONLINE, THE ROUTER WAS IN ANOTHER BEDROOM UPSTAIRS AND ALL CONNECTIONS WORKED FINE, WELL WORTH PAYING THAT LITTLE BIT EXTRA.
MY ONLY NEGATIVE AGAINST THIS ROUTER IS THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE A BUILT IN ROUTER, I ONLY FOUND OUT ONCE I BOUGHT IT, MAYBE THAT'S THE ONLY WAY YOU GET A DUAL BAD?
8 OUT OF 10 FOR ME ANYHOW.
Don't touch it with a bargepole - Cisco is much better. June 4, 2009 The Highland Lass (Highlands of Scotland) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This maybe the latest and greatest of routers but if I had not destroyed the packaging it would have gone straight back and I'd have happily spent the extra on the Cisco.
The hardware appears to be OK - it's a router but the software is just pants. When trying to configure the router for the first time you are presented with a web interface that has a very hard to read character encryption code that has to be filled in before proceeding. (once you get in you can remove this - good idea) because, when you run one of the wizards (or manually config) options you can only click NEXT once without being presented with a IE can not recoginise this page error. That in turns sends you back to the login page. If you get the code wrong it takes longer and longer for the login to work. It took about 4 hours, one page at a time, login, 2nd page, login, 3rd page etc to configure. When I called the help desk I was on hold for 5 miniutes then painfully had repeat everything twice to the support girl who just would not listen to the problem. Her solution was find/buy a new laptop - that must be the problem not their software. This call lasted over 35 minutes and cost 10p per min. Their website is no better. If you try and register the product you are presented with a JD Edwards screen that has nothing to do with product registration.
Cisco has one that is virtually the same but is more expensive. I am so sorry I was so tight and didn't buy it. I've had a Cisco for years and they really are the best.
